Usher in the Birth of SWAN Day Kenya - The beginning of a generation of FREE women Artists is finally here!!
Nairobi, Kenya
March 29, 2008 09:30AM to 05:00PM
Event Description:We have been trying for many months now to get funding to celebrate the sweet birth of SWAN day in style. It is a very noble idea, and we were looking forward to it. The aftermath of the last general election results (December 27th )which brought a lot of unrest and uncertainty in the country, is to blame for our not getting funding. But all in all, we are female artists who are passionate about women’s issues, and we are determined to host SWAN day.
We have invited a number of 40 women artists, some of whom will perform and showcase their talents in the event. we will discuss issues surrounding women artists and we will also encourage everyone to talk openly on the challenges and successes faced by individual artists.
We are encouraging artists to bring snacks for sharing, since it will be a long important day and we are also encouraging young women who are in the culinary arts to bring food for selling. With this kind of arrangement, we are certain of a fun filled SWAN day.
It will be very encouraging and exciting to discuss our challenges as female artists who uses different genres, styles and techniques. We have mobilised a local TV show presenter who is willing to highlight the day for us in one of the local programmes, and maybe, highlight the day as a news flash in the news bulletin of the 29th March. We believe we can make it.
Don’t give up, before you try. We can all make SWAN day a success.

All the people invitede, and are planning to invite other artists who support women artists, should please bring snacks to share, and soft drinks. This is the beginning of a long journey that we ought to travel together. The descrimination on Women artists is a global issue, and a global issue is an international development challenge that has to be addressed.I beleive that we all agree to the fact that any form of art is a unique approach to achieving sustainable development built around a partnership of the global community. Therefore, allow me to stress that SWAN starts with you and NOT them.
