Hosted by Performance Lab Berlin

Event Description:

Performance Lab Berlin is working together with the Fund for Women Artist to present SWAN Day Berlin 2008. The event will be presented at Das Pumpwerk, a new space for the arts in Berlin.

SWAN Day Berlin 2008 will take place from March 27 – March 30, 2008. The event will consist of:
* three performances of works from selected female artists/ female-led ensembles
* workshops for female artists on planning, financing and marketing their artistic projects
* open discussions on the role of women in the performing arts
* An Open Space will take place on the last day of SWAN Day Berlin 2008. The Open Space will provide artists and interested audience members with the opportunity to network and get to know each other.

Female artists from every discipline including theatre, dance, spoken word, performance art and music were invited to apply to present their work at SWAN-Day Berlin 2008. Each piece could be up to a maximum of ten minutes long, excerpts from longer works were also allowed.
In order to be eligible, the driving creative force behind the work submitted (the choreographer, director, playwright, composer, etc.) had to be a woman.
We received over 80 applications from artists from 18 countries: dance and theatre pieces, music, readings, installations, photographies, short films, mixed media. We’re thrilled with the quality, quantity and diversity of the works submitted.

The performances of the selected pieces will take place on Friday, March 28, 2008 and Saturday, March 29, 2008. For more detailed informationen on the participating artists, their performances, installations and films, please visit our website.

Workshops will be offered on Thursday, March 26th as part of SWAN-Day Berlin 2008. These workshops will focus on strategies to help women get their artistic projects funded and presented. Topics will include:
* Financing your Artistic Project: How to go about getting grants, donations and private sponsors
* Planning and Managing your Artistic Project
* Public Relations and Marketing for Artists
These workshops will provide artists with the tools they need to further their professional careers. Please make sure to reserve your spot if you wish to attend a workshop.

Open discussions and an open space will take place as the final event of SWAN Day Berlin 2008 on Sunday, March 30, 2008.
